Do I look like I have kidney disease?

Shelley Collier-Ramirez

Well, I do. There are 20 million American adults with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). There are approximately 400,000 people on dialysis. You may be asking yourself, "where are the other 19.5 million?" Most of them don't even know they have kidney disease. The reason is because there are usually no symptoms until the later stages of this devastating disease. There are current and more accurate ways of determining kidney function. When I was diagnosed, I had no symptoms at all. As we all know, medicine is changing every day, every hour, every minute.

The information that you will learn at this symposium will empower you as a physician, to change the course of many lives, maybe even someone you know and love. I know that there are many symposiums going on. If you see patients who are at greatest risk, those with diabetes and hypertension, I urge you to confirm your attendance.

Sincerely,

Shelley Collier-Ramirez
